Why steal from me??

When I think about plagiarism it makes me feel taken advantage of.  To have worked so hard to have my thoughts, words and ideas be birthed from within and taken to paper just to have someone else claim that it is theirs is discouraging...almost like a personal attack.  Now, if someone felt that what I had to say was good and they gave me the credit, I would be elated.  Just to have one person understand what I was trying to communicate and want to actually share it would build up my confidence.  I now have a new outlook on using others knowledge and giving them the credit they are due.

  1. Remember, plagiarism can work both ways as well. You would not want to take credit for research that turned out to be bogus or just plain wrong. I see very few "intentional" cases of plagiarism by students. Most plagiarism is "unintentional." Unfortunately, it is still plagiarism. This is why you want to take very careful research notes and spend as much time digesting and thinking about your research as you do finding it and reading it. Critical thinking about research sources will help you express your own ideas about your thesis.

  2. You're right we would pretty much have to put ourselves in the writer’s shoes, and imagine if someone took our work and claimed it as their own and were not getting credit for all the hard work we put into it. That's exactly how I thought of it the first time I ever even heard of plagiarism. One thing I didn’t know what that you had to be careful because you can accidently plagiarizes without even knowing and still gets punished for it. That's the only thing that scares me.
